Crackdown on Illegal Betting Activities

New Delhi, April 10: The special staff of the Delhi Police's outer north district apprehended two suspects in the Swatantra Nagar area of PS Narela for their alleged participation in an IPL betting operation. This action is part of a larger initiative aimed at curbing gambling activities during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

As reported by the Delhi Police, a significant breakthrough was achieved against unlawful betting practices linked to the current IPL matches. The Narela Police Station successfully dismantled a gambling operation in Swatantra Nagar, located in the national capital. Betting on IPL matches is prohibited under the Prevention of Gambling Act and the Telegraph Act.

The suspects were apprehended in the act of placing bets. Authorities seized five mobile phones, a sophisticated device known as a 'Dabba' that connects multiple phones, an LED TV, and notebooks containing betting records from the individuals.

On April 8, at approximately 6:00 PM, a confidential informant alerted the police about an individual in Swatantra Nagar who had been facilitating illegal betting on IPL cricket matches for several days. The tip-off indicated that betting was being conducted using various mobile devices during the match between Punjab Kings (PK) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Following the intelligence received, the police team arrived at the Water Plant site in Swatantra Nagar and verified the situation. A raid was executed around 10:40 PM. Inside an office room, two individuals were discovered actively participating in live betting during the IPL match (PBKS vs CSK), which was being streamed on a Sony LED TV via an application called 'OM777.'

Rohit Kumar was observed making handwritten notes related to betting transactions, while Tejender Singh was managing a communication device (dabba phone) linked to several mobile phones.

Items recovered included cash totaling Rs. 20,000 in Rs. 500 notes, five mobile phones with active SIM cards used for betting communications, one brown communication box (dabba) with a connected microphone, a diary for recording betting transactions, and a Sony LED TV, Model Full HD TS01, displaying the betting application.
