Delhi Capitals Begin IPL 2026 with a Strong Victory

New Delhi [India] - On April 2, the Delhi Capitals (DC) launched their IPL 2026 campaign with an impressive six-wicket victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Cheteshwar Pujara, a former Indian cricketer, commended the transformation of DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

During an interview on Star Sports, Pujara highlighted that Kuldeep has significantly boosted his confidence over the past two years.

“Confidence is crucial for a bowler's performance. Kuldeep Yadav's bowling in the last two years reflects his growing self-belief. He bowls fearlessly now. There was a phase when he struggled with confidence, but that is behind him. As a bowler's confidence rises, so does their ability to take wickets and their desire to excel,” Pujara remarked.

After being asked to bat first, LSG was dismissed for 141 runs, with seamers Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan each claiming three wickets. DC comfortably chased down the target, led by Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten 70 runs, securing two points to start their season.

Kuldeep Yadav contributed with two wickets, including that of opener Mitchell Marsh, who scored 35 runs off 28 balls. Yadav's second wicket came from a simple 'caught and bowled' dismissal of Mukul Choudhary.

Marsh welcomed Kuldeep with a six in the 10th over, but Kuldeep quickly responded by dismissing him on the third ball of that over.

Pujara added, “Even if Kuldeep gets hit for a six, he continues to give flight to the ball and bowls in areas that encourage batters to play aggressively, which can lead to their dismissal.”

“Since joining DC, Kuldeep's confidence has soared, and this has positively impacted his skill execution, as seen in the match against LSG,” he concluded.

With this victory, DC has now achieved five consecutive wins against LSG in the IPL, marking them as the third team against which DC has established such a winning streak.
