Delhi Capitals Make Key Signing
New Delhi [India] May 14: The Delhi Capitals (DC) have officially announced the acquisition of Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman to fill the gap left by Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, who will miss the remainder of the IPL 2025 season, as stated in a release from the team.
Following the withdrawal of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Jamie Overton, Fraser-McGurk becomes the second overseas player to confirm his exit from the ongoing IPL 2025, which is set to resume on May 17.
Fraser-McGurk has communicated to the Capitals that he will not be rejoining the team after the BCCI suspended the tournament for a week last Friday due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
Mustafizur, who made his IPL debut back in 2016, previously played for the Delhi Capitals during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In 2022, he took eight wickets in eight matches, maintaining an economy rate of 7.62, and participated in two matches in the subsequent season.
Throughout his IPL journey, the 29-year-old has appeared in 38 matches, securing 38 wickets with an economy rate of 7.84. He has represented various franchises in the league, earning a reputation for his effective bowling across all stages of an innings.
With an impressive tally of 132 wickets in 106 T20 internationals for Bangladesh, Mustafizur has solidified his status as one of the top left-arm pacers in white-ball cricket. In total, he has claimed 351 wickets in 281 matches across all T20 competitions, both domestically and internationally.
Currently, the Delhi Capitals are positioned outside the playoff zone, just one point behind the fourth-placed Mumbai Indians. They sit in fifth place with 13 points from 11 matches. The Capitals will continue their campaign against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday, followed by a match against the Mumbai Indians on May 21, and will conclude the group stage against the Punjab Kings on May 24.
