Delhi Capitals Bounce Back with a Strong Win
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 23: Following a surprising loss in their last match, the Delhi Capitals made a remarkable comeback, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants by eight wickets in their eighth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Choosing to bowl first, the team led by Axar Patel showcased an impressive performance with the ball, highlighted by Mukesh Kumar's four-wicket haul, limiting the Super Giants to 159 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. In response, the Capitals capitalized on strong batting from Abishek Porel (51 runs off 36 balls), KL Rahul (57 not out off 42 balls), and Axar Patel (34 not out off 20 balls), successfully chasing down the target in the 18th over.
In the post-match press conference, Porel expressed his confidence in the team's ability to chase the target, stating, “I always believed we could achieve the target. The pitch was favorable, and our bowling, particularly in the middle overs, was exceptional.”
Reflecting on his performance this season, Porel mentioned, “I’m enjoying my game. I’ve had valuable discussions with Hemang (Badani) and Kevin Pietersen, and I strive to implement their advice during matches.”
He also acknowledged the support from the coaching staff and senior players, saying, “The coaches encourage me to play freely, and the entire team has been very supportive.”
When asked about his aspirations, the 22-year-old wicket-keeper stated, “My ultimate aim is to represent India. However, my current focus is on contributing runs for Delhi Capitals and helping the team secure the trophy.”
Porel also commended Mukesh Kumar for his bowling skills, noting, “Mukesh is someone who relies on his strengths. He is incredibly dedicated and puts in a lot of effort during practice, especially on his Yorkers.”
With this victory, the Delhi Capitals now hold six wins and 12 points from eight matches, placing them second in the points table. They are set to face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, April 27.
