Delhi Capitals Struggle in IPL 2026

New Delhi [India] - On May 9, the Delhi Capitals (DC) experienced another setback in the IPL 2026, suffering an eight-wicket loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

In the aftermath of the match, DC's Director of Cricket, Venugopal Rao, emphasized the need for adjustments in the team lineup as they currently sit in eighth place with only four victories from 11 matches. To keep their playoff hopes alive, they must secure wins in their next three games by significant margins.

Regarding potential lineup changes, Rao stated, “We will take it one game at a time over the next three matches. We plan to give opportunities to some bench players, which is definitely something we want to explore.”

Batting first, DC managed to score 142 runs for the loss of eight wickets, despite a strong start from their openers. Pathum Nissanka contributed 50 runs off 29 balls, hitting three sixes and five fours, while KL Rahul added 23 runs from 14 balls. Axar Patel (11 runs off 22 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma (39 runs off 28 balls) helped DC reach a competitive total, but no other batsman reached double figures.

Rao pointed out several areas needing improvement, saying, “It’s not just one department; I believe three areas fell short today. After a solid start, we were in a good position after seven or eight overs, but then we struggled to score boundaries in the following six to seven overs. In such a demanding tournament, we cannot afford to miss opportunities. We need to excel in small segments, whether in batting, bowling, or fielding.”

KKR successfully chased down the target with eight wickets remaining and 5.4 overs to spare, largely due to Finn Allen's maiden IPL century.

Following two consecutive losses, DC will face the Punjab Kings in their next match in Dharamsala on Monday, while KKR will take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Raipur on Wednesday.
