Delhi Capitals' Bowling Prowess Shines in IPL Match

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], March 30: An impressive half-century from Aniket Verma offered some resistance, but the Delhi Capitals (DC) bowling unit, spearheaded by Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav, dismissed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a mere 163 runs during their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter in Vizag on Sunday.


SRH faced early challenges, finding themselves at 37/4, before Aniket (74 runs off 41 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (32 runs off 19 balls) formed a vital 77-run partnership to stabilize the innings. However, Kuldeep (3/22) struck crucial blows, while Starc (5/35) completed his five-wicket haul, concluding SRH's innings in just 18.4 overs.


After winning the toss, SRH chose to bat first but quickly encountered trouble as Abhishek Sharma was run out for just one run in the opening over by Vipraj Nigam. Starc then made his mark in the third over, taking out Ishan Kishan (2) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (0), leaving SRH in a precarious position at 25/3 within 2.3 overs.


Mitchell Starc continued his excellent form against SRH, dismissing two of their promising young players, Ishan Kishan (2) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (0) in the third over. SRH found themselves at a dismal 25/3 in just 2.3 overs.


Travis Head attempted to counterattack but was bowled by Starc for 22 runs off 12 balls, marking the seventh time Starc has dismissed him. Following his exit, SRH was left struggling at 37/4 in 4.1 overs.


Klaasen and Aniket took control, with Klaasen hitting Starc for a six and a four, pushing SRH past the 50-run mark in 4.5 overs. By the end of the powerplay, SRH had reached 58/4, with Klaasen (11*) and Aniket (6*) at the crease.


The duo accelerated their scoring, achieving their 50-run partnership in just 22 balls, with Aniket hitting two sixes off Axar Patel. SRH crossed the 100-run threshold in 9.1 overs, maintaining a brisk run rate. At the halfway point, they stood at 105/4, with Aniket (40*) and Klaasen (31*) still batting.


The partnership of 77 runs came to an end when Mohit Sharma dismissed Klaasen for a solid 32 runs in 19 balls, with Vipraj Nigam taking a remarkable running catch. SRH was then at 114/5 in 10.5 overs. Abhinav Manohar also made a brief appearance before Kuldeep Yadav removed him for just four runs, leaving SRH at 119/6 in 12 overs.


Aniket achieved his first IPL fifty in 34 balls, featuring four boundaries and three sixes.


Kuldeep secured his second wicket by dismissing skipper Pat Cummins (2) for a duck as he attempted an aerial shot. DC was at 123/7 in 14 overs.


Aniket alleviated some pressure for SRH, taking advantage of Axar's deliveries and hitting him for a four and two sixes in the 15th over.


Kuldeep claimed his third wicket as Aniket's impressive innings ended with a catch by Jake Fraser McGurk near the boundary for 74 runs off 41 balls, including five fours and six sixes. SRH was at 148/8 in 15.5 overs.


Starc completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Harshal Patel (5) and Wiaan Mulder in quick succession. SRH concluded their innings at 163/10 in 18.4 overs.


Starc's figures of 5/35 were the best of the innings, while Kuldeep finished with 3/22 in four overs, and Mohit recorded 1/25 in three overs.
