CSK's Remarkable Chase Against LSG

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - On May 10, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad shared insights following their victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), emphasizing that pursuing a target of 200 runs was bound to be a challenging endeavor, especially in the final overs.

Gaikwad acknowledged the team's strong start during the powerplay but pointed out that the pitch made it tough for new batters to find their rhythm. He mentioned that despite facing some tense moments, the squad maintained their composure to secure the win, marking a significant achievement in successfully chasing a substantial total.

In a thrilling chase of 204 runs, Urvil Patel delivered an explosive performance, scoring the joint-fastest half-century in IPL history off just 13 balls, leading CSK to a convincing five-wicket victory at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

This marks the first time since 2019 that CSK has successfully chased down a target exceeding 180 runs.

Gaikwad reflected, “Yes, it got quite close, but when you’re chasing 200, it’s expected to go down to the last few overs. We had a solid start in the powerplay, but it was challenging for new batters to come in and play freely. However, we needed to get the job done. It’s been a while since we chased 200, so it feels great to accomplish that.”

He also commended LSG's opener Josh Inglis for his outstanding batting display, admitting that CSK struggled to counter his innovative shots. Gaikwad noted that the team found it difficult to strategize or set fields against Inglis, who played a remarkable innings.

Inglis scored a blistering 85 runs off just 33 deliveries, featuring 10 fours and 6 sixes. Gaikwad mentioned that the turning point occurred after the first strategic timeout, when Sanju Samson motivated the team to regroup and limit the opposition's score, which boosted their morale. Following that, CSK concentrated on taking wickets and regaining control of the match.

He further praised the contributions of Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton during the middle overs, highlighting their effective bowling spells that helped CSK regain momentum.

“A huge shoutout to Josh Inglis. He played some incredible shots that we simply couldn’t counter, and it’s hard to plan for such talent. After the first timeout, Sanju encouraged us to make a comeback and restrict their score as much as possible. We aimed for around 220, which was still manageable. That motivation really energized us, and we focused on taking wickets to get back into the game. Noor and Jamie bowled exceptionally well during those crucial overs,” he added.

For CSK, Jamie Overton took 3 wickets for 36 runs, Anshul Kamboj claimed 2 for 47, and Noor Ahmad finished with 1 for 24.

With this victory, CSK climbed to fifth place in the standings with six wins out of 11 matches, while LSG remains at the bottom with only three wins in 11 outings.
