CSK Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad Discusses Coaching Changes Ahead of IPL Season

Chennai Super Kings to Appoint New Head Coach

In Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), announced that the team will be hiring a new head coach following the exit of Stephen Fleming. He emphasized that there is no immediate rush to make this decision, as there is still plenty of time before the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

CSK and Fleming mutually agreed to part ways in July, marking the end of a highly successful and long-standing collaboration in IPL history.

Fleming initially joined CSK as a player during the league's first season in 2008 and transitioned to head coach in 2009. Over the span of 17 years, he helped establish one of the most respected and consistent franchises in cricket.

Gaikwad stated, "We will have a head coach. The management is obviously thinking about it. There is still plenty of time before the IPL, so there is no rush to make a decision."

Reflecting on his own journey, Gaikwad noted that taking over from former captain MS Dhoni has brought about significant changes in his life, along with heightened expectations.

He expressed his contentment in the role, saying, "Yes, it has definitely changed a lot. I won’t deny that. Taking over from MS Dhoni comes with a lot of responsibility because of his immense success, and naturally, there are high expectations for more wins and titles. But that’s part of the role. As long as I continue to enjoy it, I’m happy to do it."

Gaikwad also acknowledged the challenges CSK is currently facing, urging fans to remain patient and supportive during this tough period, just as they have during the franchise's successful years.

He concluded, "As CSK fans and as a franchise, we’ve been on an incredible journey. Since 2008, almost every cycle has brought us an IPL trophy, and very few franchises have been able to achieve that level of consistency. Our fans have stood by us through some incredible moments, and now we need them to stay with us through the difficult times as well."
