Chennaiyin FC Falls Short Against Inter Kashi in ISL Clash
Chennaiyin FC's Narrow Defeat
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - In a closely contested match on April 7, Chennaiyin FC suffered a 1-2 defeat to Inter Kashi during their latest Indian Super League (ISL) fixture at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Forward Inigo Martin made a notable return to the starting lineup, leading the attack alongside teammates Farukh Choudhary, Imran Khan, and Irfan Yadwad. Eduardo Kau returned to the defense after filling in at midfield for the injured Mohammed Ali Bemammer in the previous game. Bemammer was back in the squad, controlling the midfield alongside captain Alberto Noguera, as stated in a press release.
Chennaiyin began the match with determination, with Vignesh D and Bemammer attempting shots from distance. The Marina Machans continued to press, with Martin orchestrating their offensive efforts. He set up Farukh Choudhary with a clever pass, but the forward's heavy touch allowed the defense to recover. Shortly after, Martin made a run from the wing and narrowly missed the far post with his shot.
As the first half progressed, Chennaiyin's attacking play became more cohesive, with quick exchanges causing problems for the Inter Kashi defense. A well-executed play saw Martin drop back to switch the ball to Irfan, who linked up with Farukh to find Vignesh, but his cross was slightly overhit. Noguera then tried to deliver a precise pass to Martin, only to be thwarted by a timely interception. Just before halftime, goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz made a spectacular save, with Imran clearing the follow-up off the line to maintain the scoreline.
The second half brought a change in dynamics as Inter Kashi took the lead early on. Alfred Planas scored with a long-range shot shortly after the restart and quickly added another goal by sneaking behind the defense for a close-range finish. In response, Chennaiyin pushed forward, with Farukh testing the goalkeeper from outside the box in search of a way back into the match.
Substitutions made by Miranda revitalized the team, with Mandar Rao Dessai nearly creating a chance after being set up by Pritam Kotal. Maheson Singh's powerful volley was blocked, and Noguera's header from the subsequent corner was saved. As the match neared its conclusion, Chennaiyin adopted a more direct style of play and were finally rewarded in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Chima scored with a volley from close range, marking his first goal of the season. Unfortunately, it was too late to change the outcome.
The Marina Machans will aim to recover when they take on East Bengal in their next league match on Saturday, April 11.
