Chennai Super Kings Set Impressive Target Against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL Clash
Chennai Super Kings Dominate with Batting Performance
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 14: In a thrilling encounter in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showcased a remarkable batting display, finishing their innings at 192 runs for the loss of 5 wickets against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai on Tuesday.
Despite a strong start during the power-play, the five-time champions struggled towards the end, managing to score only 23 runs in the last three overs.
This total marks CSK's second-highest score in IPL history without a player reaching a half-century, just shy of their 193/6 against Deccan Chargers in Vizag back in 2012. Sanju Samson emerged as the top scorer for Chennai, contributing a solid 48 runs.
Winning the toss, KKR opted to chase, with CSK opening their innings with Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Samson continued his excellent form from the previous match against Delhi Capitals, attacking Vaibhav Arora right from the start with three boundaries in the first over.
However, Gaikwad's struggles continued as he was dismissed for just 7 runs by Anukul Roy in the third over, bringing Ayush Mhatre to the crease alongside Samson.
The pair quickly shifted gears, aggressively targeting the KKR bowlers during the powerplay and finding boundaries with relative ease, leaving CSK at 72/2 when the fielding restrictions were lifted. Arora managed to strike back by dismissing Mhatre at the end of the sixth over.
Dewald Brevis made his IPL debut with a six off Sunil Narine, but after the powerplay, KKR tightened their grip, limiting CSK to just 102/2, with only 30 runs scored in the four overs following the field restrictions.
Samson took on Kartik Tyagi, hitting a six off the first ball of the 12th over, but Tyagi quickly retaliated, dismissing Samson for 48 on the next delivery, bringing Sarfaraz Khan to the crease.
CSK batters finally found their rhythm, scoring 15 runs off Varun Chakaravarthy in the 14th over, moving to 136/3. After a tight over from Anukul Roy, CSK accelerated again, targeting Arora for 20 runs in the 16th over.
Veteran spinner Narine claimed the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan for 23 runs, finishing his spell with figures of 1/21. Tyagi continued his impressive performance, dismissing Brevis for 41 runs while conceding just 6 runs in the 18th over.
After a rough start, Vaibhav Arora made a strong comeback in the 19th over, allowing only nine runs against big hitters like Shivam Dube and Jamie Overton.
Tyagi concluded his spell by conceding just 8 runs in the final over, finishing with figures of 2/35. KKR now needs to chase down 193 runs to secure their first victory of IPL 2026.
