Chennai Super Kings Face Tough Times in IPL 2025

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - April 12: Michael Hussey, the batting coach for the Chennai Super Kings, has expressed that the team, despite their current struggles, is not ready to concede defeat after suffering their fifth consecutive loss in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), marking a historic low for the franchise.

As one of the most celebrated teams in IPL history, the Chennai Super Kings find themselves in a precarious position following a significant defeat to the reigning champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders.

With Ruturaj Gaikwad sidelined for the season, MS Dhoni returned to lead the team for the first time since 2023, aiming to reverse the team's fortunes as they navigate a challenging phase.

Under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the Knight Riders decisively dismantled Chennai's stronghold at Chepauk, silencing the usually vibrant crowd after a dismal batting performance from the Super Kings.

Despite their efforts to stage a comeback, the Super Kings fell short as the Knight Riders chased down a modest target of 104 runs in just 10.1 overs, securing an emphatic 8-wicket victory.

Currently, CSK sits just above the bottom of the table, with only one win in six matches, dimming their hopes for playoff qualification. However, Hussey insists that the team will continue to fight.

"This one really hurts. The players, support staff, and fans are all feeling the pain. We are not waving the white flag just yet. We just need to scrape into that fourth playoff spot," Hussey stated during the post-match press conference, as reported by a Media House.

He acknowledged the team's lack of momentum, saying, "In a lengthy tournament like the IPL, momentum is crucial. Right now, we are not in a good place, and we recognize that. But things can change quickly in cricket."

Prior to this disappointing match, Chennai had never experienced three consecutive home losses at Chepauk. With the coaching staff actively seeking solutions to regain their form, Hussey has placed his trust in the experienced leadership to guide the team through this challenging period.

"I have faith in Stephen Fleming, a fantastic coach, and MS Dhoni, who has been an exceptional captain. Ruturaj will still be part of the team. They will work to keep the team united and focused, especially as we face criticism from outside, which we deserve given our performance so far," he added.
