Injury Blow for CSK as Jamie Overton Heads Back to England

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - The Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) aspirations for a late surge into the IPL 2026 playoffs have suffered a significant setback with all-rounder Jamie Overton returning to England due to a right thigh injury.

While CSK has not disclosed how long Overton will be sidelined or confirmed if he will miss the rest of the season, it seems improbable that he will be available for the team's final three league matches. CSK's next challenge is against the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday.

On social media, CSK announced, “Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management.”

This season, Overton has been a key player for CSK, ranking as the team's second-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets, boasting an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 18.89. He was named Player of the Match in CSK's last outing, where he took 3 wickets for 36 runs, contributing to a five-wicket win over LSG at Chepauk on May 11.

In other news, CSK has signed all-rounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for the injured Ramakrishna Ghosh. Ghosh, who played only one match this season against the Mumbai Indians on May 2, has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a right foot injury.

Noronha, hailing from Karnataka, will join CSK for a fee of Rs 30 lakh. He recently received the MA Chidambaram Trophy at the Naman awards for being the top run-scorer in the 2024/25 Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy, amassing 1,037 runs in 14 innings with a highest score of 345 and an impressive average of 79.77.
