Ayush Mhatre's Injury Impact on CSK

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) five times, have suffered a significant setback with the news that their dynamic batter and U19 World Cup-winning captain, Ayush Mhatre, will miss the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a hamstring injury.

CSK released a statement confirming, “Official Announcement: Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.”

The statement further noted, “Ayush’s injury will necessitate a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks. We wish him a swift recovery.”

This season, Mhatre has been a standout performer for CSK, accumulating 201 runs across six innings with an average of 33.50 and an impressive strike rate of 177.87, which includes two half-centuries and a top score of 73.

Since joining the team as a replacement for injured captain Ruturaj Gaikwad last season, Mhatre has emerged as a key player, amassing 441 runs in 13 innings at an average of 33.92 and a strike rate of 183.45, featuring three fifties.

Currently, CSK has only secured two victories out of their six matches in IPL 2026, recently losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 runs, placing them in eighth position on the points table.

Mhatre's absence creates a significant gap in the top order, especially as Indian openers Sanju Samson and captain Gaikwad have struggled for form. Additionally, star wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is still recovering from a calf strain.

Earlier in the season, CSK also lost left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed to injury. The five-time champions have faced numerous injury challenges, including the absence of explosive South African batter Dewald Brevis at the tournament's start, although he has since returned.

CSK's next match is against their arch-rivals, the Mumbai Indians (MI), scheduled for April 23 at Wankhede Stadium.
