Cameron Green Achieves Milestone in IPL
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India] - On May 17, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Cameron Green marked a significant achievement by scoring his 1,000th run in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Australian cricketer, who was acquired by KKR for a hefty sum of Rs 25.20 crores, reached this milestone during a match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Eden Gardens. He contributed with an impressive 52 runs off 28 balls, featuring three fours and four sixes, boasting a strike rate of 185.71.
Despite facing criticism at times, Green has consistently proven to be a valuable player throughout his IPL career, which includes stints with Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and now KKR. In total, he has accumulated 1,023 runs across 41 matches and 40 innings, averaging 40.92 with a strike rate of 152.68, including one century and four fifties.
This season, Green has bounced back after a slow start, amassing 316 runs in 12 matches at an average of 39.50 and a strike rate exceeding 150, along with two fifties and a top score of 79. He has also taken five wickets, averaging 38.00.
Green's IPL journey began with MI in 2023, where he scored 422 runs in 16 innings, averaging 50.22 with a strike rate of 160.28, including a century and two fifties, while also claiming six wickets.
In his subsequent season with RCB, he managed 255 runs in 12 innings at an average of 31.87 and a strike rate of 143.25, with a best score of 46, and took 10 wickets at an average of 30.30. His performances were crucial in RCB's remarkable turnaround to reach the playoffs after a challenging start.
In the match against GT, the Titans chose to bowl first, but KKR capitalized on the opportunity. After an early dismissal of skipper Rahane (14), Finn Allen (93 off 35 balls, including four boundaries and 10 sixes) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi formed a formidable partnership, scoring 95 runs together. Following Allen's exit, Raghuvanshi secured his fifth fifty of the season, accelerating the scoring alongside Green, who finished with 52* off 28 balls. KKR concluded their innings at a remarkable 247/2 in 20 overs, with Raghuvanshi scoring an unbeaten 82* off 44 balls.
Mohammed Siraj and Sai Kishore each took a wicket for GT.
During GT's chase, Sai Sudharsan had to retire hurt early on. However, skipper Shubman Gill (85 off 49 balls, with five fours and seven sixes) and Jos Buttler (57 off 35 balls, with five fours and two sixes) formed a strong 128-run partnership. Unfortunately, after their dismissals, GT struggled to maintain the required run rate, finishing at 218/4 in 20 overs.
Sunil Narine was the standout bowler for KKR, taking 2 wickets for 29 runs and earning the 'Player of the Match' title.
Currently, GT holds second place with eight wins and five losses, totaling 16 points, while KKR sits at seventh with five wins, six losses, and one no result, accumulating 11 points.
