Cameron Green Becomes Third Most Expensive Player in IPL History at Auction
IPL Auction Highlights
The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction kicked off with excitement as Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a staggering Rs 25.20 crores. This purchase marks him as the third-most expensive player ever in the league and the highest-priced overseas player in IPL history, as the auction took place in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
The bidding frenzy began between Rajasthan Royals and KKR, with the Royals withdrawing at around Rs 13 crores. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) then entered the fray, pushing the bid past Rs 20 crores.
CSK placed a bid of Rs 25 crores, but KKR countered with Rs 25.20 crores, ultimately securing Green's services.
In his T20I career, Green has amassed 521 runs across 21 matches, averaging 32.56 with a strike rate of 160.30, including six fifties. He has also taken 12 wickets at an average of 23.35. In total, he has scored 1,334 runs in 63 T20 matches, averaging 33.35 with a strike rate of 151.07, featuring one century and seven fifties, along with 28 wickets.
Previously, Green played for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2023 and 2024 IPL seasons, accumulating 707 runs in 29 matches at an impressive average of 41.58 and a strike rate exceeding 153, with one century and two fifties. However, he missed last season's auction due to an injury.
In another notable transaction, South African middle-order batsman David Miller was signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) for his base price of Rs two crores. In T20Is for South Africa, he has scored 2,612 runs in 132 matches, averaging 33.06 with a strike rate above 140, including two centuries and eight fifties. Across 539 T20 matches, he has accumulated 11,497 runs at an average of 35.05, with four centuries and 50 fifties.
Miller has played 141 IPL matches for teams like PBKS, RR, GT, and LSG, scoring 3,077 runs at an average of 35.77 and a strike rate over 138, including one century and 13 fifties. Last season with LSG, he struggled, managing only 153 runs in 11 innings at an average of 30.60.
Aussie player Jake Fraser McGurk, who had a disappointing last season with DC, went unsold after scoring just 55 runs in six innings. New Zealand opener Devon Conway, a key player for CSK and an IPL champion in 2023, also went unsold after a lackluster season where he scored 169 runs in six innings.
Despite their impressive domestic performances, Maharashtra's Prithvi Shaw and Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan were also unsold. Shaw, who had a decent run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year, scored 183 runs in seven matches at an average of 26.14. In the Ranji Trophy, he made 470 runs in five games at an average of 67.14.
Sarfaraz has scored 585 runs in 50 IPL matches for RCB, PBKS, and DC, including one fifty. He showcased excellent form in the SMAT 2025/26, scoring 329 runs in seven matches at an average of 65.08 and a strike rate over 203.
