BRICS Chief Justices' Forum Kicks Off in New Delhi

New Delhi, September 4: Igor Krasnov, the Chief Justice of Russia, landed in New Delhi on Friday to take part in the BRICS Chief Justices' Forum. He was welcomed at the airport by Denis Alipov, the Russian Ambassador to India, along with other officials. Krasnov is set to engage in bilateral discussions with his counterparts from BRICS nations to enhance legal collaboration.
The Russian Embassy in India announced via Telegram that Chief Justice Krasnov's visit includes meetings with foreign judicial leaders, focusing on the integration of artificial intelligence in the justice system.
Also present in New Delhi is Ayatollah Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, the Head of Judiciary from Iran. He visited the Jama Masjid for prayers and met with Imam Maulana Syed Shaban Bukhari. During his stay, he has been interacting with Islamic scholars and leaders from various faiths at the Iranian Embassy.
The Supreme Court of India is hosting the BRICS Chief Justices' Forum from September 4 to 6, gathering Chief Justices and senior judicial figures from BRICS member states and partner countries. The forum aims to address pressing issues in justice delivery, international dispute resolution, technology, and sustainable development.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant is scheduled to hold multiple bilateral meetings with judicial heads from countries including Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran, and Uzbekistan on Friday.
The Supreme Court of India stated that these meetings will facilitate direct dialogue and the exchange of perspectives on judicial matters of mutual interest, thereby enhancing cooperation among the participating judiciaries.
On the second day of the forum, heads of delegations from BRICS member states and partner countries will present their insights on shared judicial interests.
Judicial leaders from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa, and the UAE, along with partner nations such as Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan, will contribute to the discussions, as noted by the Supreme Court.
The forum's substantive sessions will delve into four key topics: Mediation and International Commercial Disputes, Cross-Border Enforcement of Arbitral Awards, Artificial Intelligence and the Judiciary, and Judicial Leadership and Sustainable Development, according to the official statement.
India's leadership of BRICS is centered around the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', reflecting a people-focused approach emphasized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2025 Rio Summit.
BRICS includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, with partner countries such as Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
