Brazil's Impressive Victory Secures World Cup Progression
Florida [US], June 26: Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his pride following the team's successful qualification for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026. This achievement came after a decisive 3-0 win against Scotland during their final Group C match at Miami Stadium on June 24.
Vinicius Junior was the standout player for Brazil, netting two goals in the first half, while Matheus Cunha added a third after halftime, ensuring Brazil topped their group. A significant highlight was the return of legendary striker Neymar, who made a late appearance as a substitute.
In a post-match update on X, Ancelotti shared his pride in the team's journey and emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and preparation for the upcoming challenges. He stated, “Proud of the qualification and the team’s evolution. Now we have to prepare well, maintaining focus and confidence. Let’s go together,” in his post.

Brazil's first-place finish in Group C marks their 12th consecutive tournament where they have topped their group, continuing a remarkable streak that dates back to 1982.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) celebrated this achievement, highlighting Brazil's illustrious history in the World Cup and expressing confidence as they move forward. In a post on X, the CBF remarked, “And the story of the greatest National Team in the world at the 2026 World Cup continues. Onward to the final phase.”

During the match, Brazil quickly took control, scoring in the seventh minute after Scotland's defense faltered. Rayan intercepted a poor pass from Scott McKenna, setting up Vinicius, who skillfully rounded the Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn to score.
This goal made Vinicius the first Brazilian in 24 years to score in each of his nation’s first three FIFA World Cup matches, a feat previously achieved by Ronaldo Nazario and Rivaldo in 2002, according to ESPN FC's X account. Vinicius Jr. became only the fifth Brazilian to accomplish this, joining legends like Jairzinho, Romario, Ronaldo, and Rivaldo.
Brazil maintained dominance throughout the match, nearly extending their lead with another goal from Vinicius, which was disallowed after a VAR review. Scotland struggled to create significant chances against Brazil's solid defense and fell further behind just before halftime when Vinicius scored his second goal from a Bruno Guimaraes cross.
After the break, Scotland attempted to respond, but Brazil's control was evident as they secured their third goal in the 60th minute. Guimaraes again played a crucial role, assisting Matheus Cunha, who finished with confidence to make it 3-0.
Despite some efforts from Scotland, including a few saves from Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, they could not find the net. Neymar's return to the pitch marked a significant moment, as he made his first appearance of the tournament after recovering from injury.
With this victory, Brazil topped Group C with seven points, advancing to the Round of 32 alongside Morocco, who triumphed over Haiti 4-2. Scotland now awaits confirmation on whether their three points will suffice for progression as one of the best third-placed teams.
