Bhuvneshwar Kumar Shines as RCB Triumphs Over Mumbai Indians in Nail-Biter
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Heroics Lead RCB to Victory
Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 11: Bhuvneshwar Kumar earned the title of 'Player of the Match' following his outstanding performance against the Mumbai Indians (MI). He took four crucial wickets and hit a six in a high-pressure moment, guiding the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a thrilling last-ball victory.
With just nine runs required from the final three deliveries, Bhuvi struck a six over the point region off Raj Angad Bawa's bowling, enabling RCB to clinch a two-wicket win and ascend to the top of the points table with their seventh victory of the season.
Upon receiving his Player of the Match award, Bhuvi expressed that the six would be a memorable highlight for him. He remarked, “That six for sure, because I’ve bowled many times. I’ve taken a few wickets before as well. But yeah, six is the thing I’ve enjoyed the most.”
The 36-year-old fast bowler currently leads the wicket-taking charts with 21 wickets, holding the Purple Cap for the season. This marks the fourth occasion he has achieved over 20 wickets in an IPL season.
In this match, he dismissed Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, conceding only 23 runs in his four overs.
Discussing his motivation, he stated, “Honestly, motivation is a very overrated word for me. You read some quote, you see some video, and you get motivated for a few minutes and that fades away very quickly. But the thing which keeps me going is the discipline, and with that, yes, we have physios and trainers with the team, but I’ve got a physio and trainer back at home. They work hard with me as well. They help me to keep in shape. So I think credit goes to them as well.”
Krunal Pandya also made a significant contribution, scoring 73 runs off 46 balls, including five sixes and four fours.
RCB skipper Rajat Patidar praised Pandya's performance, stating, “I think it’s normal now, but it was a very tight match. Overall, I think it was a great game, especially KP (Krunal Pandya). I think he’s the man who’s done it for the team.”
On Bhuvneshwar's performance, Patidar added, “I think the way he (Bhuvneshwar) controlled the ball, his control over the ball, I think, is super. And it’s been difficult on a wicket that was two-paced and had variable bounce. I think it’s very difficult to play him.”
With this win, RCB has moved to the top of the standings with seven victories from 11 matches, while the Mumbai Indians sit in ninth place with only three wins from their 11 games.
Reflecting on their position in the points table, the skipper mentioned, “Right now we are not bothered about the table because our mantra is to play on our strengths and play good cricket rather than looking at the table.”
