Bangladesh Government Considers Lifting IPL Broadcast Ban
Bangladesh's IPL Broadcast Dilemma
Dhaka (Bangladesh); March 28: The Bangladeshi Ministry of Information is currently seeking input from the Ministry of Sports regarding the possibility of resuming live broadcasts of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Previously, the interim government of Bangladesh imposed a ban on IPL broadcasts in response to the Kolkata Knight Riders' refusal to allow Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman to participate.
On January 5, the interim government issued a directive to halt all live IPL broadcasts and related events in the country until further notice.
Following the general elections on February 12, a new democratic government took office, prompting the Ministry of Information to reach out to the Ministry of Sports to discuss the potential lifting of the IPL broadcast ban.
As of now, the Ministry of Information has not received feedback from the Ministry of Sports. A decision regarding the ban will be made once their opinion is obtained.
The IPL 2026 season is set to commence today, with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) facing off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, while the Kolkata Knight Riders will kick off their season against the Mumbai Indians at the renowned Wankhede Stadium on March 29.
