Capitals' Captain Axar Patel Addresses Team's Challenges

New Delhi [India] - Following the defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel admitted he was struggling to process the events of the match. However, he emphasized the necessity of maintaining a positive outlook and continuing their efforts.

What initially appeared to be a disappointing loss in a high-scoring chase of 265 runs turned into a more significant setback for the defending champions. At one point, DC found themselves in dire straits at 8/6 within just four overs. This marked their fifth defeat in eight matches, and to have any hope of reaching the playoffs, they must win all remaining games while relying on favorable outcomes in other matches.

During the post-match interview, Axar stressed the importance of being alert in cricket, stating that the game is not about dwelling on 'ifs and buts'.

“I still can’t comprehend what occurred. That’s why it’s crucial to stay vigilant in cricket. There will always be 'ifs and buts'—like if we had caught that ball or made that run against GT. Each day, you must remain focused and continue performing well. You can’t afford to relax even for a moment. Instead of fixating on past events, concentrate on what lies ahead. Regardless of whether you maintain a positive or negative mindset, you still need to play. Tonight was unfortunate, but we must stay optimistic and revert to our previous form,” he remarked.

He praised the exceptional skills of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood, who effectively dismantled the DC batting lineup during the powerplay, noting he was not surprised by the movement they achieved.

“I wasn’t taken aback by the early movement. They (Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood) are world-class bowlers. If our openers and number three had batted for one or two overs, the game could have unfolded differently,” he concluded.

With this victory, RCB has secured their sixth win out of eight matches, accumulating 12 points and currently sitting in second place on the points table. Meanwhile, DC remains in seventh place with three wins and five losses.

RCB chose to bowl first, and outstanding performances from Hazlewood (4/12) and Bhuvneshwar (3/5) restricted DC to just 75 runs in 16.3 overs, with Abishek Porel (30) and David Miller (19) providing some resistance. RCB's batting lineup then came out aggressively, with Jacob Bethell (20 off 10 balls, including a four and two sixes), Devdutt Padikkal (34* off 13 balls, with three fours and three sixes), and Virat Kohli (25* off 13 balls, featuring a four and two sixes) completing the chase in just 6.3 overs.
