Delhi Capitals' Struggles Against KKR

New Delhi, May 9: Following a disappointing eight-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their IPL match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the team's spinners.

Batting first, DC managed to score only 142 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The spinners, including Axar, Vipraj Nigam, and Kuldeep Yadav, collectively conceded 102 runs in just nine overs.

While Axar delivered a commendable performance with figures of 1/27 in four overs, Kuldeep and Vipraj struggled significantly. KKR's opener Finn Allen played a remarkable innings, scoring an unbeaten 100 off 47 balls, leading his team to victory. Kuldeep gave away 41 runs in three overs, and Vipraj allowed 34 runs in two overs, with neither bowler claiming a wicket as KKR chased down the target in a mere 14.2 overs.

In the post-match presentation, Axar acknowledged that the team's total was inadequate and pointed out the mistakes made by the spinners on a pitch that provided assistance. He noted that the turning point came when DC lost five wickets in quick succession during the first innings, which severely impacted their momentum.

“The runs were definitely below par, and the spinners made several errors. The pitch was conducive to spin, and we lost five wickets in just two to three overs, which is where we lost our momentum,” Axar stated.

Looking ahead, Axar mentioned that the team would reflect on their errors and start strategizing for the future, including evaluating plans for the next season and considering opportunities for bench players.

“We will review our mistakes and think about our plans for next year. We will also assess the players on the bench to determine who might be given a chance and what changes we can implement,” he added.

In the match, KKR's Kartik Tyagi and Anukul Roy each took two wickets, while their disciplined bowling kept DC's scoring under control.

Chasing a target of 143, KKR comfortably reached their goal with 34 balls remaining, thanks to Finn Allen's explosive innings, which included 10 sixes and five fours. Cameron Green also contributed with an unbeaten 33.

This victory marked KKR's fourth consecutive win of the season.
