Arshdeep Singh Becomes First PBKS Bowler to Reach 100 IPL Wickets
Arshdeep Singh Achieves Milestone in IPL
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 16: Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has made history by becoming the first player from Punjab Kings (PBKS) to secure 100 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He reached this significant milestone on Thursday.
The left-arm pacer, who leads the wicket-taking charts for India in T20 internationals, accomplished this feat during an IPL match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, where he recorded impressive figures of 3 wickets for 22 runs in four overs. His victims included notable batsmen such as Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Sherfane Rutherford.
Since joining PBKS in 2019, Arshdeep has participated in 87 matches, claiming a total of 102 wickets with an average of 26.87. His record includes two instances of taking four wickets in a match and one five-wicket haul, with his best performance being 5 for 32. The next highest wicket-taker for PBKS is spinner Piyush Chawla, who has taken 84 wickets in the same number of matches at an average of 26.63, including a four-wicket haul and best figures of 4 for 17.
This season, Arshdeep has played five matches for PBKS, taking five wickets at an average of 34.20 and an economy rate of 9.50.
He is now the fifth left-arm pacer in IPL history to reach the 100-wicket mark, joining the ranks of Trent Boult (144), Jayden Unadkat (114), Ashish Nehra (106), and Zaheer Khan (102).
In the match, PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl first against MI. After a shaky start at 12 for 2, a remarkable partnership of 122 runs between Quinton de Kock (112 not out off 60 balls, including seven fours and seven sixes) and Naman Dhir (50 off 31 balls, with three fours and three sixes) propelled MI to a total of 195 for 6 in their 20 overs.
Arshdeep's three wickets made him the standout bowler for MI, while Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen also contributed with wickets.
