Abhishek Sharma Shines Against CSK

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] - On Saturday, during a match against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Abhishek Sharma achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new record for the fastest half-century by a Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After a disappointing performance in his previous match, where he scored a duck, Abhishek made a stunning comeback, scoring 59 runs off just 22 balls, which included six fours and four sixes, against CSK. His innings boasted an impressive strike rate exceeding 268.

A standout moment in his performance was when he scored 25 runs off Matthew Short in the fifth over, hitting four boundaries and a six, and reaching his fifty in a mere 15 balls. This achievement surpassed his previous record of a 16-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2024. His 15-ball fifty now ranks as the third fastest in IPL history, following Yashasvi Jaiswal's 13-ball fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2023, and the 14-ball fifties by KL Rahul, Pat Cummins, and Romario Shepherd.

Throughout six matches this season, Abhishek has accumulated 188 runs, averaging 31.33 with a strike rate of 229.26, which includes two fifties and a top score of 74.

He has also crossed the milestone of 2,000 IPL runs, amassing a total of 2,004 runs in 80 innings, with an average of 27.45 and a strike rate of 167.55, featuring one century and 11 fifties. Specifically for SRH, he has scored 1,941 runs in 77 innings at an average of 26.95 and a strike rate of 166.89, including one century and three fifties.

Abhishek is now the second-fastest player to reach this landmark, achieving it in 1,193 balls, just behind Andre Russell, who did it in 1,120 balls.

This year, in 19 T20 matches, Abhishek has scored 511 runs at an average of 28.38 and a strike rate of 209.42, including six fifties. However, he has also recorded seven ducks this year, the highest for any Indian player in a single calendar year.

In the match, CSK won the toss and chose to bowl first. A solid partnership of 75 runs between Abhishek (59 off 22 balls) and Travis Head (23 off 20 balls) set a strong foundation for SRH. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed significantly with 59 runs off 39 balls, helping SRH reach a total of 194/9 in their 20 overs.

For CSK, Anshul Kamboj (3/22), Jamie Overton (3/37), and Mukesh Choudhary (2/21) were the standout bowlers.
