Fines Imposed on Captains for Slow Over-Rate
Ahmedabad: In a recent IPL Qualifier 2 match, captains Shreyas Iyer of Punjab Kings and Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians faced fines due to their teams' slow over-rate.
Iyer was penalized Rs 24 lakh for his team's second violation of the IPL's Code of Conduct regarding over-rate, while Pandya was fined Rs 30 lakh for his team's third infraction.
According to an IPL statement, "Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs as it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences."
The statement further noted, "Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has also been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate. As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 Lakh."
Additionally, the remaining players from the PBKS squad were fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever was lower, while MI players faced penalties of Rs 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees.
In the match, Iyer delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 87 runs, leading Punjab Kings to a five-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians. This win marks their first final appearance since 2014, where they will compete against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Tuesday.
