IPL 2026: Anticipation Builds for Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni's Potential Farewell
IPL 2026 Kickoff and CSK's Prospects
The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on March 28, 2026, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) having released the schedule for the initial 20 days. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are expected to be a focal point this season, especially after their disappointing last-place finish in IPL 2025. Fans are eager to see MS Dhoni back in action at the age of 43, although former teammate Irfan Pathan suggests this could be Dhoni's final appearance on the field.
During a discussion on Star Sports, Pathan expressed that CSK would feel incomplete without Dhoni, emphasizing that this season might mark the end of his illustrious career in the yellow jersey. He highlighted Dhoni's crucial role in uniting the team and mentoring younger players like Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, while also supporting Sanju Samson, who is part of the leadership group. Pathan stated, 'CSK is incomplete without MS Dhoni. This season might be the last time we see him in the yellow jersey, and it’s tough to imagine CSK and the IPL without him.'
Pathan further noted that while questions regarding Dhoni's fitness and playing time will arise, the CSK management is likely to approach the season with care, aiming to provide him with a fitting farewell by potentially securing their sixth IPL title.
