IPL 2025 Qualifier 2: Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings Preview
Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings Clash in IPL 2025 Qualifier 2
On Sunday, the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 will see the Mumbai Indians take on the Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad, with a chance to compete against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final. The Mumbai Indians are entering this match after a convincing victory over the Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator, while the Punjab Kings have had additional rest following their defeat to RCB in Qualifier One at New Chandigarh.
As the teams prepare for this crucial knockout match, both franchises are closely monitoring the fitness of two essential bowlers: Deepak Chahar for MI and Yuzvendra Chahal for PBKS. Reports indicate that both players underwent fitness evaluations in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Chahar's Fitness and Chahal's Potential Return
Deepak Chahar, who was sidelined during the Eliminator due to a left leg injury, was assessed by the Mumbai Indians' medical staff at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He participated in light drills and sprinting exercises, displaying no visible discomfort, although he remained cautious in his movements.
Chahar has been a key new-ball bowler for MI alongside Trent Boult, but Ashwani Kumar stepped up in his absence, proving effective. While Chahar's absence may not significantly disrupt MI's balance, the potential loss of Chahal could have a more substantial impact on PBKS.
Conversely, there is optimism surrounding Yuzvendra Chahal's return for the Punjab Kings. The leg-spinner, who has been out since May 18 due to a right wrist injury, participated in a full training session on Saturday, engaging in net bowling and fielding drills while wearing protective strapping on his wrist. Although no official announcement has been made, reports suggest he is likely to be fit for the important match.
Chahal's return could be crucial for PBKS, especially after their previous outing where they were bowled out for a mere 101 runs. Earlier in the season, they faced a similar batting collapse against KKR, but Chahal's four-wicket haul had previously helped them defend a low score. His absence has been felt, and the team is hopeful that his return will lead to a much-needed revival.
