IPL 2025: PBKS and DC Face Playoff Challenges After Abandoned Match

Match Abandonment Affects Playoff Hopes

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) faced an unfortunate turn of events as it was abandoned due to a floodlight failure at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium on Thursday. This incident has put both teams in a precarious position regarding their playoff qualifications.

As a result of the canceled game, both teams were awarded one point each. Following this, Punjab Kings climbed to third place in the standings, boasting 7 wins and 3 losses from their 12 matches.

Playoff Scenarios for PBKS and DC

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, DC has gathered 16 points and needs to secure at least one victory in their remaining two matches to ensure a playoff spot. However, if they lose both, their chances will hinge on their Net Run Rate (NRR) and the results of other matches, despite already having 16 points.

On the other hand, DC is currently positioned fifth in the table with 6 wins and 4 losses, totaling 14 points from 12 matches. To solidify their playoff chances, the team led by Axar Patel must win both of their upcoming games, which would elevate them to 18 points.

Remaining Matches and Qualification Stakes

If DC manages to win one match and loses the other, their qualification will still depend on the outcomes of other games and their NRR. However, losing both matches would eliminate them from the tournament, as they are set to face Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final two encounters.

Should DC lose both matches against GT and MI, both of those teams would qualify for the playoffs, leaving Delhi Capitals out of contention. Currently, GT and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are leading the points table, each needing just one win from their remaining three matches to secure their playoff positions.
