IOA President PT Usha Announces Significant Funding Boost for National Sports Federations
Major Funding Increase Announced at IOA AGM
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], January 10: PT Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), declared that the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) was a success, revealing a substantial increase in annual grants for national sports federations. The funding will escalate from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.
Furthermore, Usha confirmed that state Olympic bodies will now receive Rs 10 lakh, an increase from the previous Rs 7 lakh. She emphasized plans to transform Ahmedabad into a prominent sports hub.
“The AGM was very productive. We are raising the annual funding for each national sports federation from Rs 7 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs. Additionally, state Olympic bodies will benefit from an increased annual allocation of Rs 10 lakh, up from Rs 7 lakh. Significant developments are on the horizon for Ahmedabad to establish it as a sports center,” PT Usha stated during a media interaction following the AGM.
The meeting convened representatives from national sports federations, athlete representatives, and IOA officials to assess past efforts and strategize for the future of the Olympic movement in India, as per an IOA announcement.
In her address at the AGM, PT Usha remarked, “This AGM signifies our shared dedication to reform, transparency, and, most importantly, to our athletes. Recently, we have made significant strides to modernize the IOA and prioritize athlete welfare in all our initiatives. Our mission is to cultivate a robust, ethical, and globally esteemed Olympic movement for India.”
