Cultural Exchange at the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup

Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 5: As part of the ongoing FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025, international teams residing in Madurai had the opportunity to experience the traditional sport of Jallikattu at the Kalaignar Centenary Jaikattu Arena.


Teams from Canada, Namibia, Egypt, Austria, China, Bangladesh, Korea, Oman, along with tournament officials, visited the arena in the morning to immerse themselves in one of South India’s most treasured sporting traditions. P Moorthy, the Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration for the Government of Tamil Nadu, was present to welcome and engage with the teams, according to a press release from Hockey India.


This visit marked a significant moment of cultural exchange, allowing athletes from around the globe to witness the heritage, community spirit, and athletic prowess that Jallikattu represents.


As Tamil Nadu hosts the largest edition of the Junior World Cup to date, the event underscores the state's dedication to showcasing India's traditional sports on an international stage. The FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 features 24 participating nations.


Further emphasizing this cultural link, the tournament mascot 'Kangeyan' is inspired by the Jallikattu tradition, symbolizing strength, pride, and Tamil identity.


With teams coming together to celebrate this unique cultural experience, the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 is not only about world-class hockey but also about connecting the world to India’s rich sporting heritage.


Currently, India leads Pool B with three victories in three matches and is set to face Belgium in the quarterfinals on Friday.
