Goalless Draw Marks Club World Cup Kickoff

On June 15, at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, Inter Miami faced off against Al Ahly in the opening match of FIFA's Club World Cup, resulting in a goalless draw before a vibrant audience.

Al Ahly had a golden chance to score when Trezeguet missed a penalty in the first half, which was expertly saved by Inter Miami's goalkeeper, Oscar Ustari. Ustari's performance was commendable, showcasing his skills during the initial 45 minutes.

Lionel Messi, the Argentine superstar, made his appearance for Miami just days after playing for Argentina in a World Cup qualifier against Colombia. He nearly broke the deadlock with a free kick and almost assisted Fafa Picault with a header that struck the crossbar in stoppage time.

Despite Messi's attempts and the presence of Luis Suarez, it was Ustari who shone the brightest, making four vital saves in the first half and preventing the Egyptian team from taking an early lead.

Ustari's standout moment came when he saved Trezeguet's penalty, marking his first penalty save since October 2022. The 38-year-old joined Inter Miami in September 2024 and became the starting goalkeeper earlier this year due to an injury to Drake Callender. He concluded the match with eight saves, surpassing the five shots that Inter Miami managed on Al Ahly's goal.

Although Al Ahly dominated the first half, they struggled to convert their chances into goals. Just eight minutes into the match, they began to penetrate Miami's defense. Wessam Abou Ali thought he had scored, but his goal was ruled offside shortly after the 30-minute mark.

Inter Miami improved in the second half, but their efforts were not enough to secure a win, resulting in a draw in the Club World Cup opener.
