Exciting Moments in the Third Test
The third day of the Test match between India and England at Lord's showcased thrilling moments. During this time, England's batsman Jack Crawley was seen wasting time, leading to some tension between him and India's captain Shubman Gill. Former England captain Michael Vaughan commented that Crawley's strategy of delaying the game was one of the best he had witnessed, but he noted that India couldn't complain, as they had employed similar tactics the previous day.
After India was bowled out for 387 runs, the visiting team had ample time to bowl two overs in the final session of the third day. However, Crawley's excuses regarding an injury and his repeated retreats during Jasprit Bumrah's initial overs caused significant delays.
This left India with only one over to bowl, frustrating the visiting team as England managed to score two runs without losing a wicket in their second innings on day three.
Vaughan stated on the BBC's Test Match Special podcast that this was the best example of time-wasting he had seen. He pointed out that India had no grounds for complaint since Gill had suffered a muscle strain in his leg, preventing him from starting the innings while Rahul was off the field. Vaughan emphasized that both teams were in a similar situation.
He remarked that neither team could complain, but it was indeed a fantastic display of drama and an excellent day of cricket. Former England captain Alastair Cook added that such drama was essential to bring excitement to a series that was tied at 1-1.
