Injury Update: Sai Sudharsan Faces Extended Recovery After Rib Fracture

Emerging cricketer Sai Sudharsan is set to miss over a month of play due to a rib fracture incurred during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. The injury, affecting the anterior cortex of his seventh rib, occurred while he was diving for a run. Although he is unlikely to participate in the remaining Ranji Trophy games for Tamil Nadu, there is hope he may recover in time for the IPL with the Gujarat Titans. His rehabilitation includes lower-body conditioning, with upper-body training planned as his symptoms improve. This injury typically requires six to eight weeks for healing, adding to Sudharsan's challenges in his recent Test performances.

Sai Sudharsan's Injury Details

New Delhi: Emerging Indian cricketer Sai Sudharsan is expected to be out of action for over a month due to a rib fracture he sustained during a recent Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh, as reported by a source from the BCCI on Friday.

The 24-year-old, who is not currently included in India's white-ball squad, suffered a fracture to the "anterior cortex of the seventh right rib" while attempting a diving run in the VHT match held in Ahmedabad.

It appears unlikely that Sudharsan will participate in the remaining Ranji Trophy matches for Tamil Nadu, although he may be fit in time for the IPL with the Gujarat Titans.

On December 29, Sudharsan visited the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where scans revealed a "slender, undisplaced fracture of the anterior cortex of the right seventh rib."

Notably, this injury occurred in the same area where he had previously been struck during a net session earlier in the tournament.

A report from the Centre of Excellence indicated that "Sai is currently focusing on lower-body strength and conditioning exercises with protective measures for the injured rib to aid in recovery, and he is responding positively to this regimen.

"Upper-body training will commence once the acute symptoms subside over the next 7-10 days, after which he will gradually transition into a structured upper-body strength and conditioning program," the report elaborated.

Typically, such injuries require a healing period of six to eight weeks.

Sudharsan has faced challenges in Test matches, having struggled in nine out of his eleven innings.
