New Delhi [India], May 11: The Indian women's cricket team has now equaled the record for the most 300+ totals in One Day Internationals (ODIs) within a single calendar year, achieving this remarkable feat against Sri Lanka in the Women's ODI Tri-Series, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
In the final match held in Colombo, a stellar century from Smriti Mandhana, along with significant contributions from the middle order, propelled India to a formidable score of 342/7 against Sri Lanka.
India secured the Women's ODI Tri-Series title with a convincing 97-run win over the host nation, thanks to a strong bowling display led by Sneh Rana and Amanjot Kaur.
After winning the toss, India opted to bat first. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal provided a solid foundation, rotating the strike effectively and hitting occasional boundaries, bringing the score to 45/0 within the first 10 overs. They crossed the 50-run mark in just over 11 overs.
Inoka Ranaweera managed to break the 70-run partnership by dismissing Pratika for 30 runs off 49 balls, which included two fours, leaving India at 70/1 in the 15th over. Harleen Deol then joined Mandhana, who reached her 32nd ODI fifty in 55 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes.
A standout moment occurred in the 31st over when Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu conceded four consecutive boundaries to Mandhana, allowing 17 runs in total. Mandhana achieved her 11th ODI century, surpassing England's Tammy Beaumont to become the third-highest century maker in ODIs, reaching the milestone in 92 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.
The partnership between Mandhana and Pratika reached a century in just 95 balls. However, the 120-run partnership came to an end when Dewmi Vihanga dismissed Mandhana for 116 runs off 101 balls, which included 15 fours and two sixes, leaving India at 190/2 in the 33rd over. India crossed the 200-run mark in the 35th over.
Dewmi struck again, taking the wicket of Harleen for 47 runs off 56 balls, which included four boundaries, leaving India at 219/3 in the 37th over.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues then took charge, aiming to boost India's total in the final overs. Their partnership of 48 runs ended when Sugandika Kumari dismissed Harmanpreet for a brisk 41 runs off 30 balls, featuring three boundaries and a six, with India at 267/4 in the 43rd over.
India lost Richa Ghosh (8) and Jemimah (44 runs off 29 balls, with four boundaries) shortly after, bringing the score to 304/6 in the 46th over.
Amanjot Kaur was run out for 18 runs off 12 balls on the penultimate delivery of the innings. India concluded their innings at 342/7 after 50 overs, with Deepti Sharma remaining not out on 20 runs off 14 balls, including three fours, and Kranti Goud also not out.
Sneh Rana was the standout bowler with impressive figures of 4/38, while Amanjot Kaur contributed significantly with 3/54. Their combined efforts were crucial in ensuring India's dominance in the final, securing the Tri-Series title in style.
