India's Strong Contingent Heads to 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow
Overview of the 2026 Commonwealth Games
The 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) are set to commence, with a robust Indian team of 126 athletes arriving in Glasgow for the prestigious event. This 24th edition of the quadrennial competition will feature only 10 sports, a significant reduction from the 19 sports in 2022, following the withdrawal of the original host, Victoria. In the previous edition, India secured 61 medals, but many of the sports contributing to that tally are absent this time.
Among the participants, athletics boasts the largest representation, with 44 athletes, including 32 in able-bodied events and 12 para athletes. Additionally, boxing and judo will each see 14 Indian competitors. The games are scheduled to run from June 23 to August 2, with both the opening and closing ceremonies taking place at the OYO Hodra Stadium in Glasgow.
