Disappointing Performance at ISSF World Cup

Lonato, Italy - July 9: The Indian skeet shooting squad has unfortunately failed to qualify for the top-six finals at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun event in Lonato.


Among the competitors, seasoned shooter and Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan recorded scores of 24, 25, 24, 25, and 23, finishing with a total of 121. Despite being one of the top performers after two days of qualifying, he ended up in 30th place out of a competitive field of 176 in the men's skeet category.


Other participants included Bhavtegh Gill, who scored 23, 25, 25, 25, and 21, concluding with a total of 119 after a disappointing 21 in his final round, placing him 75th. In the women's skeet, Ganemat Sekhon shot scores of 23, 25, 24, 24, and 20, finishing with a total of 116 and securing the 30th position.


In the women's skeet event, Olympians Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon also competed, with Chauhan scoring 24, 22, 22, 25, and 23 for a total of 116, landing her in 27th place. Dhillon finished with scores of 22, 23, 24, 24, and 22, totaling 115 and placing her 33rd.


Another Olympian, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, managed to recover some ground in the men's skeet, achieving a score of 24 in his final round to finish with a total of 119, placing him 67th overall.


The Trap events are set to commence next on Friday, July 11, 2025, marking the beginning of the qualifying rounds.
