Athletics and Boxing Take Center Stage on Day 10

On the 10th day of the Asian Games, Indian athlete Gulveer Singh is set to pursue his third medal, while three boxers aim to secure spots in the finals.


Athletics: A Day of Finals

Gulveer, who has already clinched silver in both the 1500m and 10,000m events, will compete in the men's 5000m final alongside fellow Indian Avinash Sable. This final is scheduled for 4:45 PM IST, with Sable also hoping to earn a medal after narrowly missing out in the steeplechase.


Additional medal opportunities in athletics include:


1. Men's pole vault final featuring Dev Meena and Kuldeep Kumar at 2:50 PM.


2. Women's high jump final with Pooja Singh and Supriya Sindigere Basavaraju at 3:35 PM.


3. Women's hammer throw final with Tanya Chaudhary and Anushka Yadav.


4. Women's 800m final with Pooja Singh.


5. Men's 800m final featuring Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath.


India will also field three relay teams in medal races, including the mixed 4x100m relay final at 5:18 PM, women's 4x400m final at 5:35 PM, and men's 4x400m final at 5:47 PM.


Boxing: Semifinal Matches

In the boxing arena, Parveen Hooda will compete against China's Li Shu in the women's 65kg semifinal at 10:15 AM. Meanwhile, Ankush Panghal will face Uzbekistan's world champion Fazliddin Erkinboev in the men's 80kg semifinal at 11 AM, followed by Narender Berwal who will take on Kazakhstan's Aibek Oralbay in the men's +90kg semifinal at 11:30 AM. All three boxers have already secured at least bronze medals.


Shooting Events

The shooting range will host medal events, with the women's and men's trap finals taking place. Neeru Dhanda, Manisha Keer, and Aashima Ahlawat will compete in the women's trap individual final at 10:30 AM, while Kynan Chenai, Ahvar Rizvi, and Shapath Bharadwaj will participate in the men's final at noon.


Other Sports Action

India's women's squash team will continue its Pool C matches against Iran at 6:30 AM, while the men's volleyball team faces Qatar at 12:30 PM, a match that could determine the Pool C leaders.


In archery, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan will start their men's recurve individual campaigns in the round of 16, with Kumkum Mohod and Kirti Sharma competing in the women's round of 16.


Kishore Kumar Anbarasu will represent India in surfing, facing the Philippines' Toby Espejon in the men's shortboard quarterfinal at 4:54 AM, with a win advancing him to the semifinals.


Track cycling will feature team sprint and team pursuit events, while Vipin Kumar competes in the men's -66kg kurash event. India will also participate in canoe slalom, sailing, sport climbing, and tennis, with Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh playing their men's singles second-round matches, alongside the men's and mixed doubles teams.


With athletics, boxing, shooting, squash, volleyball, and various other sports presenting medal opportunities, India aims to enhance its medal tally on this action-packed day at the Asian Games. As of the end of Day 9, India ranked 12th in the medal standings with four gold, 20 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
