India's Hockey Teams Set for FIH World Cup Challenge
Exciting Matchups Await in FIH Hockey World Cup
The Indian men's hockey team will face fierce rivals Pakistan, along with formidable teams England and Wales, in the group stage of the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup. This prestigious event will be co-hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium later this year. The draw ceremony took place on Tuesday at the historic Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam, where the Indian women's team was also placed in a challenging group with China, England, and South Africa. The tournament is set to run from August 15 to 30.
Both Indian teams are in Pool D of their respective categories and will compete in the Netherlands. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has announced that the complete match schedule will be revealed on Wednesday. The reigning men's champions, Germany, who secured their third World Cup title in 2023 by defeating Belgium, are in Pool B with Belgium, France, and Malaysia.
Hockey legends Naomie van As, Barbara Neelen, and Teun de Nooijer conducted the draw, with DJ La Fuente being named the Dutch Ambassador for the World Cup during the event. FIH president Tayyab Ikram expressed hope that the tournament would promote peace during challenging times, stating, "Today's draw marks another significant milestone on the path to the most prestigious FIH event. The upcoming edition, co-hosted by two hockey powerhouses, is expected to be a great success." He emphasized the role of sports in uniting people amidst global conflicts.
