Craig Fulton, the head coach of the Indian men's hockey team, expressed his contentment following the team's impressive 13-1 win against Indonesia in their first match of the Asian Games 2026. He also identified areas that require enhancement before their next game.
In a video posted by Hockey India on X, Fulton praised the players for their performance across all four quarters and acknowledged Indonesia's relentless effort until the final whistle. "I’m pleased with the first game. The boys performed well throughout the match. It wasn’t an easy game. We had a lot of possession, but credit goes to Indonesia for their continuous fight," Fulton remarked.
While celebrating the victory, the coach noted that there are still aspects to improve. "We’re happy with the 13-1 scoreline, but we had some strong phases and areas for improvement, which we will focus on for the upcoming match against Sri Lanka," he stated.
Fulton emphasized the importance of a strong start but recognized the need to address conceding a goal and missing scoring opportunities. "It was a good start, but we need to work on conceding goals and capitalizing on chances. Overall, it was a solid win, and we are pleased with the outcome," he added.

Impressive 13-1 Victory in Campaign Opener
The Indian men's hockey team kicked off their Asian Games 2026 journey with a remarkable 13-1 victory over Indonesia in their Pool A opener at the Kawasaki Juko Stadium.
A total of eight players scored for India, with Dilpreet Singh leading the charge by netting four goals. Other contributors included Shilanand Lakra, Abhishek, Rajinder Singh, Mandeep Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, and Jugraj Singh.
India started the match strongly, with Shilanand Lakra scoring in the sixth minute after converting a rebound from a saved drag-flick by Harmanpreet Singh. Abhishek then doubled the lead in the 12th minute. The second quarter saw India dominate, with Dilpreet scoring twice in quick succession, followed by goals from Rajinder Singh and Mandeep Singh. Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner in the 28th minute, leading to a commanding 7-0 halftime advantage.
Indonesia managed to score their only goal in the 33rd minute through a penalty corner by captain Aulia Al Ardh, but India quickly responded. Lakra netted his second goal, Dilpreet completed his hat-trick, and Sukhjeet Singh added another, ending the third quarter with a 10-1 lead.
The defending champions maintained their attacking momentum in the final quarter, with Jugraj Singh scoring from a penalty corner, Sukhjeet adding his second, and Dilpreet finishing with four goals to secure a comprehensive 13-1 victory.
India's next match is against Sri Lanka in their second Pool A game on September 22.
