India's Dominance: A Stunning 96-Run Victory Over New Zealand in T20 World Cup Final
India Clinches T20 World Cup Title with Record-Breaking Performance
Ahmedabad: In a thrilling display of batting prowess, India triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs in the T20 World Cup final, successfully defending their title with a record-setting total on Sunday.
Sanju Samson led the charge with a blistering 89 runs, supported by impressive half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54). The Indian top order unleashed a barrage of sixes, leaving the New Zealand bowlers reeling as they amassed an astonishing 255 runs for five wickets.
This score marks the highest ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final, showcasing the defending champions' dominance on the grand stage. With this victory, India also became the first team to secure back-to-back titles.
The pressure of the scoreboard weighed heavily on the Black Caps, who struggled to respond effectively against the Indian bowlers, losing three wickets in quick succession.
Finn Allen (9) and the formidable Glenn Phillips (5) fell early, significantly diminishing New Zealand's chances of mounting a competitive challenge.
Axar Patel (3/27) and Jasprit Bumrah (4/15) dismantled the Kiwi batting lineup, and with Tim Seifert's departure (52 off 26), the match became a mere formality.
After being invited to bat, Samson and Abhishek aggressively attacked the New Zealand bowlers, forming a remarkable 98-run opening partnership in just 7.1 overs, setting the stage for a monumental total.
With commanding strokes and little regard for the opposition, India surpassed the 200-run mark within 15 overs.
However, New Zealand managed to slow the run rate by taking the wickets of Samson, Kishan, and captain Suryakumar Yadav (0) within a span of six balls, with James Neesham claiming all three in the 16th over.
Hardik Pandya (18) did not last long, but Shivam Dube (26 not out) finished strongly, scoring 24 runs in the final over bowled by Neesham.
India's last five overs yielded 52 runs, largely due to Dube's explosive performance.
Brief Scores:
