India Moves Forward with Commonwealth Games 2030 Bid

New Delhi [India], August 14 (Media House): The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially endorsed India's proposal to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030. Gagan Narang, the Vice-President of the IOA and an Olympic medalist, expressed optimism regarding the nation's prospects.

"We convened an Executive Committee meeting this morning, followed by a special General Meeting. All significant agendas were addressed and approved seamlessly. We are eager to present our best efforts for the bid and remain hopeful for a positive outcome," Narang stated after the meetings.

According to an IOA insider, Ahmedabad is anticipated to be the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Bids are expected to be submitted by August 31, with Commonwealth Sport set to announce the chosen city in November.

The meeting covered three primary topics: the approval of the audited financial statements for the fiscal year 2023-24, the appointment of a statutory auditor for 2024-25, and the proposal to seek consent for the bid to host the 2030 Games in India, along with necessary actions for the process.

In June, a prominent delegation from Gujarat, led by Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi, engaged with Commonwealth Sport officials to comprehend the bidding framework for the 2030 Games. The delegation included members from the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The purpose of the meeting was to gather insights on planning expectations, governance standards, and milestones for the bid. This initiative underscores India's commitment to aligning with international best practices while collaborating closely with stakeholders throughout the process.

Discussions included essential components typically found in a Games bid, such as vision and legacy plans, governance and institutional support, sustainability, transport strategy, sports programming, accessibility, infrastructure planning, athlete services, and operational strategies during the Games.
