India's Bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games Gains Momentum
IOA President Expresses Joy Over Commonwealth Games Bid
PT Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), shared her excitement regarding the endorsement of India's proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during a Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Wednesday.
While Ahmedabad has emerged as a leading candidate for the host city, Usha noted that no final decision has been made yet, as other cities like Bhubaneswar also possess the necessary facilities.
"The meeting was productive, and we have unanimously agreed on the Commonwealth 2030 bid proposal. Collaboration yields the best outcomes, and I am thrilled today. We have excellent facilities in both Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar, but a decision will be made soon," Usha stated.
Ahmedabad Likely to Host Commonwealth Games 2030
Following the conclusion of the meeting, an IOA insider indicated that "Ahmedabad is likely to be the chosen city for the Commonwealth Games 2030." Proposals are anticipated to be submitted by August 31, with Commonwealth Sport expected to announce the host city in November.
In June, a prominent delegation from Gujarat, led by Harsh Sanghavi, the Minister of Sports, engaged with Commonwealth Sport officials to better understand the bidding process for the 2030 Games.
Discussions on India's Vision for the Commonwealth Games
The delegation comprised members from the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Their discussions focused on gathering insights regarding planning expectations, governance standards, and key milestones for the bid.
Key topics included in the Games bid were also discussed, such as vision and legacy plans, governance and institutional support, sustainability, transport strategies, sports programming, accessibility, infrastructure planning, athlete services, and operational aspects during the Games.
