India's Athletics Stars Set to Shine on Day 7 of Commonwealth Games 2026
Athletics Highlights for India on July 29
On July 29, India's athletics talents, Parul Chaudhary and Murali Sreeshankar, will lead the nation's efforts at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, both aiming to enhance India's medal count in their finals.
Parul Chaudhary, who holds the national record, will participate in the women's 3000m steeplechase final, seeking her first medal at the Commonwealth Games. She is also set to compete in the women's 5000m event later in the games, as reported by ESPN.
Murali Sreeshankar, who won silver at the Birmingham 2022 Games, aims to reclaim his spot on the podium in the men's long jump final. He will be joined by fellow athlete Lokesh Satyanathan, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor, another national record holder, will kick off his journey in the men's shot put qualification alongside Samardeep Singh Gill.
The boxing team from India will have a packed schedule, with six boxers just one win away from securing a medal by reaching the semifinals. The athletes include Sakshi Choudhary (women's 51kg), Arundhati Choudhary (women's 70kg), Sachin Siwach (men's 60kg), Ankush Yadav (men's 80kg), Narender Berwal (men's 90+kg), and Jaismine Lamboria (women's 57kg), all set for quarterfinal bouts.

In weightlifting, Sanjana will compete in the women's 77kg final, while Manpreet Kaur is expected to be a strong contender in the women's shot put final later in the day.
The swimming events will conclude with Sajan Prakash and Aneesh S. Gowda participating in the men's 200m freestyle heats, alongside Srihari Nataraj, Aryan Nehra, and India's para swimmers.
The para athletics team will also be in action, with Devender Kumar and Sagar Thayat competing in the men's discus throw F42-44/F61-64 final, and Mohammed Basil M and Dilip Mahadu Gavit in the men's 100m T47 final.
India has had a commendable performance in Glasgow thus far, amassing a total of 12 medals, including two gold, seven silver, and three bronze.
