Archery: India's Compound Teams Shine

The Indian men's compound archery team triumphed over South Korea in the semifinals at the ongoing Asian Games, securing a spot in the finals against China in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday. The team, consisting of Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal, and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru, won with a score of 236-229, aiming for a third consecutive medal in compound archery.

Earlier, the women's compound archery team, featuring Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi, and Prithika Pradeep, achieved a remarkable victory, clinching the gold medal by defeating China in the final. The Indian archers showcased exceptional skill, finishing the match with a score of 238-234. This victory marked Jyothi's fourth gold at the Asian Games and the first for both Chikitha and Prithika.

In a thrilling mixed team event, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav secured another gold medal for India after a nail-biting shoot-off against South Korea. This victory not only awarded them the gold but also qualified India for the mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The duo demonstrated remarkable composure, forcing a shoot-off after a tie and ultimately winning in a tense finale.

Success in Other Sports

In boxing, Priya Ghanghas, a gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games 2026, earned a bronze medal after losing to China's Yang Chengyu in the women's 60 kg semifinal.

In shooting, India achieved a historic gold medal as Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai excelled in the mixed trap team event, setting a new Games record. Neeru, who previously won gold in the women's trap individual event, and Kynan scored 34, surpassing the previous record of 30 set by Qatar. Qatar took silver with 32 points, while China secured bronze with 23 points. This marks India's first gold in the Trap Mixed Team event.

Overall, India has now won nine gold medals at the Asian Games, with this being the third gold on the day. The country has amassed a total of 56 medals in the 2026 Asian Games, including nine golds, 21 silvers, and 26 bronzes. The shooting team has contributed significantly, with 15 medals comprising three golds, eight silvers, and four bronzes.
