Indian Youth Boxing Team Shines at World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok
Strong Performances by Indian Boxers
Bangkok, Thailand - On March 12, the Indian Youth boxing team showcased impressive skills on the fifth day of the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026. Notable victories were achieved by Gunjan, Radhamani Longjam, and Chandrika Pujari in their respective matches, as reported in a recent press release.
During the morning session, Gunjan (48kg) triumphed with a decisive 5-0 unanimous decision against her Polish opponent. Radhamani Longjam (57kg) also shone brightly, winning by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the first round against her Ecuadorian rival.
In contrast, Prachi (60kg) faced a tough match, losing 5-0 to a Slovakian boxer, while Priyansh Sehrawat (70kg) was defeated 5-0 by his Moroccan competitor in the men's category.
As the evening session unfolded, Chandrika Pujari (50kg) contributed another victory for India, securing a 5-0 unanimous decision against a boxer from the United States.
The World Boxing Futures Cup, taking place in Bangkok from March 8 to 15, features talented youth boxers from around the globe competing in Youth Olympic weight categories. This event provides essential international exposure and serves as preparation for future global competitions.
The Indian team aims to maintain their momentum as the tournament approaches its concluding stages.
Earlier in the tournament, on Day 3, Priyansh Sehrawat (70kg) started strong for India, achieving a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Latvia to progress further.
In the evening session of that day, the Indian squad celebrated two more significant wins. L. Ambekar (50kg) claimed a 5-0 unanimous decision against Tajikistan, while Sahil Duhan (60kg) also secured a commanding 5-0 victory over another Tajikistani opponent, continuing his impressive performance.
However, Aman Siwach (65kg) faced a setback, losing to a Ukrainian boxer by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the second round.
The World Boxing Futures Cup not only highlights the skills of young boxers but also offers them invaluable international exposure.
