Deepika Sehrawat and Rutuja Pisal emerged as standout players as the Indian women's hockey team showcased their prowess at the Asian Games 2026, defeating Indonesia 17-1 in their second Pool B encounter on Monday.

A Record-Breaking Performance

Following her remarkable eight-goal performance against Uzbekistan in a 19-0 victory, Deepika added three more goals against Indonesia, with Rutuja also contributing significantly. Other notable scorers included Sunelita Toppo, captain Salima Tete, and Sakshi Rana.

India's Relentless Attack

Deepika initiated the scoring spree with a penalty corner conversion in the eighth minute, executing a flawless dragflick.

In a flurry of goals within the next seven minutes, Sunelita Toppo (11th minute), Lalremsiami (13th minute penalty conversion), and Rutuja Pisal (15th minute) propelled India to a 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Lalremsiami's goal came after a penalty corner attempt by Navneet was saved, allowing her to capitalize on the rebound.

Rutuja's first goal was also a close-range rebound after Deepika's shot was blocked by the goalkeeper.

Lalremsiami kicked off the second quarter with a powerful reverse hit for her second goal in the 16th minute, following a long pass that was initially blocked.

Rutuja netted her second goal in the 20th minute, receiving a pass from Neha inside the circle and finishing it off effortlessly, extending the lead to 6-0.

The scoring continued with Sakshi Rana finding the net in the 25th minute, followed by penalty corner conversions from Deepika (28th minute) and Sunelita (30th minute).

Dominance by the Numbers

At halftime, the score stood at 9-0, with India dominating possession at 55% and earning nine penalty corners compared to Indonesia's two.

Second Half Onslaught

The second half saw skipper Salima Tete (34th minute), Navneet (35th minute), Ishika (36th minute), Rutuja (39th minute), and Deepika (40th minute) continue the scoring spree, bringing the tally to 14-1, with Indonesia's Innes Adiyita scoring in the 32nd minute.

Navneet added two more goals in the 56th and 57th minutes, while Sakshi Rana also scored in the 57th minute.

Continuing a Record Run

The Indian women's hockey team kicked off their campaign with a commanding 19-0 win over Uzbekistan in their first match of the Asian Games 2026.

Deepika was the highlight of that match, scoring eight goals, including five from penalty corners, while Ishika completed a hat-trick, marking a dominant performance. Deepika's achievement set a new record for the most goals scored by an individual in an Asian Games match.
