Victory Secured by Harmanpreet Kaur's Stellar Performance

New Delhi, July 23: The Indian women's cricket team clinched a 2-1 series victory against England in the ODI series held at Chester-le-Street, largely due to captain Harmanpreet Kaur's remarkable seventh ODI century.

In a recent video shared by the BCCI Women on ‘X’, Harleen Deol had a conversation with the Indian captain, questioning her thoughts on England, given her impressive track record against them and her mindset during the match.

Harmanpreet responded, stating, “I don’t have any issues with England; my first century came against them, which boosts my confidence whenever I play. My focus was on staying at the crease, as runs will come naturally if I do. Previously, I felt rushed, but today I aimed to spend more time batting.”

Following the dismissal of Smriti Mandhana in the 18th over, Harmanpreet and Harleen formed a crucial partnership, adding 81 runs for the third wicket. Harleen inquired how Harmanpreet assessed their collaboration during the innings.

“It was a pivotal moment; we needed to build a partnership and score quickly since we had already spent considerable time at the crease. We calculated our runs per over and identified which bowlers to target, ensuring we met all the requirements for a successful partnership,” Harmanpreet explained.

After Harleen was dismissed by Lauren Bell, Jemimah Rodriguez joined Harmanpreet, and together they forged a significant 110-run partnership for the fourth wicket, propelling India to a total of 318/5 and securing a 13-run victory.

“Jemimah has consistently performed well for the team. While batting, we discussed the importance of staying at the crease, and I took my time, which she also felt was necessary, and we executed our plan effectively,” she noted.

At just 21 years and 345 days, Kranti Gaud made history as the youngest pace bowler to take six or more wickets in a women's ODI innings. Harmanpreet honored her with a shared player of the match accolade, recognizing the potential she displayed at Chester-le-Street.
