Indian Women's Cricket Team Prepares for World Cup with Training Camp in Visakhapatnam

Training Camp Ahead of ICC Women's Cricket World Cup

The Indian Women's Cricket Team is set to kick off a week-long skill-based conditioning camp in Visakhapatnam, starting August 25, in preparation for the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

This location is particularly significant as only a few players, including Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Sneh Rana, have previously played at the ACA-VDCA Stadium, with their last appearance dating back to 2014, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

India's schedule includes two crucial matches in Visakhapatnam: the first against South Africa on October 9, followed by a clash with Australia on October 12. The team's limited experience at venues such as Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, and Indore has been a focal point of discussion leading up to the World Cup.

In a recent development, Navi Mumbai has replaced Bengaluru as one of the tournament venues, which could be advantageous for the Indian team, given their extensive play in that region over the past few years in both international matches and the Women's Premier League.

Originally, the conditioning camp was slated for Bengaluru but was relocated to Visakhapatnam after the Karnataka State Cricket Association could not obtain the necessary police clearance for matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

All players and reserves from the World Cup squad, along with the India A team selected for warm-up matches, are expected to take part in this camp.

The camp will feature two intra-squad day and night practice matches before the team travels to New Chandigarh for an ODI series against Australia, commencing on September 16.

After the 50-over series, the team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will head to Bengaluru for two warm-up games against England on September 25 and New Zealand on September 27, before proceeding to Guwahati for their first ICC Women's World Cup match against Sri Lanka on September 30.
