Indian Women's Archery Team Shatters Records to Secure Gold at Asian Games

Historic Victory for Indian Archers

Nagoya: The Indian women's compound archery team delivered an outstanding performance, defeating China with a score of 238-234 to clinch the gold medal at the Asian Games, matching a world record in the process.

The team, consisting of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi, and Prithika Pradeep, showcased their skills in the final, securing the top podium position.

This remarkable achievement ties them with the world record previously set by South Korea during the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

China's archers, Wunier, Yue Wang, and Fangyao Wei, took home the silver medal, while the bronze went to South Korea's team of Park Jungyoon, Park Yerin, and Kang Yeonseo, who triumphed over Chinese Taipei.

The Indian trio started strong, winning the first end 60-58 with a series of perfect 10s.

Continuing their dominance, they took the second end 60-58, leading 178-176 as they approached the final end.

Under pressure, the Chinese team faltered with two 9s, while India maintained their excellence, scoring six perfect 10s to not only defend their title but also equal the world record.

This victory marks India's seventh gold medal in the current Asian Games.

Earlier, India had edged past South Korea with a narrow 234-233 victory to reach the finals at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park.

The Indian women's compound team had previously secured gold at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, contributing to India's five gold medals in archery from the last edition.
