Indian Squash Players Shine at Asian Games

In Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 25, Indian squash athletes Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar have successfully reached the semifinals in the mixed doubles category at the Asian Games, guaranteeing India at least a bronze medal.

The duo triumphed over their Filipino rivals with scores of 11-3 and 11-5 in the quarterfinals, securing their spot in the final four.

For the seasoned Chinappa, this achievement marks a significant milestone, coming 16 years after her initial medal at the Asian Games. She continues to enhance her impressive continental record alongside her partner Senthilkumar.

In the semifinals, Chinappa and Senthilkumar are set to compete against Hong Kong's Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong on Saturday, aiming to advance to the finals.

This victory contributes to India's growing medal tally in squash at the Asian Games, showcasing Chinappa's vast experience and Senthilkumar's skill as they progress through the tournament.

Meanwhile, India's performance across various sports has been mixed, with table tennis and shooting standing out as key highlights. Diya Chitale and Manush Shah secured a medal by defeating Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem in the mixed doubles quarterfinals. However, Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade faced elimination after losing to China's Lin Shidong and Kuai Man.

In badminton, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto moved on to the second round of mixed doubles after overcoming Maldives' Aminath Abdul Razzaq and Nibal Ahmed.

In shooting, Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh excelled in the 10m air pistol mixed team qualification, bolstering India's chances for more medals.

In swimming, Rishabh Das and Utkarsh Patil advanced to the finals of the men's 200m backstroke, while Dhanush Suresh, Aneesh Sunil, and Dhakshan Shashikumar did not progress in their events.

In canoe sprint, Prohit Baroi and Prasanna Kumar reached Final B in the men's kayak double 500m, while Megha Pradeep and Neha Leichonbam were eliminated from the women's canoe double 500m.

India's fencing teams were eliminated in the round of 16, with the men's foil team losing to Hong Kong and the women's epee team falling to Uzbekistan. In athletics, Anamika Aneesh and Pooja currently sit in seventh and ninth place, respectively, in the women's heptathlon standings after the long jump.
