On Wednesday, Indian shooters Rudrankksh Patil and Arya Borse clinched the silver medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup. Representing the team India 1, they scored 9 in the gold medal match, finishing behind the Chinese duo of Zifei Wang and Buhan Song, who topped the event with a score of 17.
The second Indian team, comprising Arjun Babuta and Narmada Raju, ended up in fourth place after a close contest against Argentina 1’s Fernanda Russo and Marcelo Julian Gutierrez, losing 13-17 in the battle for bronze.
In the qualification rounds, Rudrankksh and Arya secured the second position with a total score of 630.5, while Babuta and Narmada followed closely in fourth with 629.6.
With a tally of four golds, two silvers, and one bronze, India currently ranks second in the medal standings, trailing behind China, who has a few more bronze medals.
Earlier on Tuesday, Vijayveer Sidhu, a Paris Olympian, contributed to India's medal count by winning gold in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event. He scored 29 in a tightly contested final, surpassing seasoned Italian shooter Riccardo Mazzatti, who finished just one point behind. The bronze medal went to Chinese teenager Yang Yuhao.
Vijayveer expressed his confidence, stating, 'Having participated in numerous finals at the Nationals and trials, I aimed to replicate that performance today. I focused on controlling what I could, and it paid off. This gold medal is a significant milestone, and I hope it paves the way for future Indian athletes in this discipline.'
Unfortunately, the women’s trap team did not advance to the medal rounds, with Neeru achieving the best result among Indian competitors, finishing 12th with a score of 115. Pragati Dubey placed 16th with 110, while Bhavya Tripathi came in 23rd with 106.
